Walking the Wales Coast Path - Pembrokeshire - Broad Haven South to Freshwater West
This section of the Pembrokeshire coast path I actually walked in 3 parts, but for ease I thought I would blog it as one.
The first section from Broad Haven South was to St Govans, and it was a walk I did with my family. This section was tricky to find times to walk as you are dependent on the firing range being open, hence why it was done in sections. The walk to St Govan’s and back was really lovely though, and a nice walk to do with kids. Everyone was very impressed by St Govan’s.
The second section was another walk with my family. We walked from St Govan’s to Castlemartin. The kids got fed up after 2 miles, and knowing they had to turn back, they chose to head back before we reached the green bridge, but I headed on. The plan was for them to drive and pick me up, and so I had to walk fast to see how far I could get. I made it past the Castlemartin range and to a roundabout close to the road down to Freshwater West.
The final section I did when my friend Nia and I did a circular walk at Freshwater West, a few weeks later, she left me at the beach and drove to that roundabout and waited for me and I walked that remaining chunk. I was exhausted from our walk so would have happily left it for another time, but Nia pushed me to do it and I am so glad she did as I don’t know when I would have made it back there to do just 1 mile of walking.
I really loved the section from Broad Haven South to the Green Bridge, and couldn’t help but feel a bit sad that this section is used by the military and not always open for the public to enjoy. It offers some seriously incredible views and is well worth checking the firing schedule and getting there when it is safe to visit.
