A Teen Friendly Holiday to TerSpegelt in Holland

In 2024, while planning our family holiday, our three kids, aged 10 to 16, set strict rules. After our great trip to Annecy in 2022 and an exhausting 8-hour drive from Calais, they wanted to limit our drive to 6 hours. They also insisted on plenty of water activities and a theme park. I spent hours searching online for a place everyone would love. Sticking to France at first, I decided to widen my search using the “theme park nearby” filter and discovered Camping Terspegelt in Holland.

It turned out to be perfect: just 3 hours from Calais with lakes, a pool, water slides, and fun activities like a zip wire across the lake and a giant inflatable blob that launches you into the lake. Plus, there were not one, but two amazing theme parks nearby, and it was close to both Belgium and Germany for great day trips to appease us grown ups too. Not only had I met the kids’ requirements, I’d managed to actually exceed them!

Finding a holiday that thrilled all three kids felt like a big win since they are much harder to please now they are older. Camping Terspegelt definitely delivered, and we had a blast during our 10 days in Holland. Keep reading to see what adventures we had!

Camping TerSpegelt

There was so much to see and do on the campsite, and we had no trouble keeping everyone entertained. From water activities, to play parks, table tennis, min golf, and even a small petting zoo where the kids got to feed goats.

Watch the video below to see some of the fun we got up to in and around the site.

Highlights from our holiday.

Efteling Theme Park

Probably the most famous theme park in Holland, and one that is often compared to EuroDisney. Not only were the park grounds beautiful, but there was such a great range of rides. Truly something for all ages, and a big hit with all 5 of us.

Toverland Theme Park

Toverland is a slightly smaller theme park, but it is still well worth a visit, and we honestly had the best time there. So many great rides for both the thrill seekers and the more cautious amongst us. They have a huge indoor area full of rides too, so ideal if you’re not so lucky with the weather. There was even a Go Ape style rope course that in the UK would definitely cost you at least £25 extra, but this was included in the cost.

Kempen, Germany

We took a day trip to Germany on the Sunday. There were some larger cities not too far away, but I have come to the conclusion in recent years that I simply do not enjoy cities, and I knew I wanted to see some of that lovely picturesque architecture I remember so clearly from a childhood holiday to Germany.

Kempen was just a small town we found on the map, that wasn’t too far away, so we went for it. It definitely ticked the boxes for quaint and picturesque, and we got lucky with a food festival going on whilst we were there, so we got to enjoy some very tasty treats, but if you do decide to go, don’t go on a Sunday. Everything is closed! Whoops.

Liege, Belgium

We went to Liege for the waffles, and the chocolate, and we were not disappointed. The beautiful old town area of the city was an added bonus.

The rest of our time in Holland was spent in and around the campsite. Making the most of the lakes and pool, and various activities going on throughout the week. The kids had so much fun doing “the blob” and the zip wire, both of which were free for guests.

There was so much to see and do, and we had no trouble keeping all 3 kids entertained. If you are looking for a holiday destination that will be fun for the whole family, and want to avoid flying, or just want a short drive from the UK, then Camping TerSpegelt might be just what you are looking for.
