Easter holiday Fun in South Wales
With the Easter holidays fast approaching, the idea of 2 whole weeks to keep the kids entertained may well be filling you with dread. Whilst I'll be relishing the slower mornings without school runs, it never takes long for a slow morning to blend into the afternoon and before you know it your day is gone. And in the age of social media you then get to spend your evening seeing all the amazing things everyone else did that day, that you somehow managed to miss. Well here's hoping this blog post will help.
One of our favourite places to visit locally is The National Botanic Garden of Wales. We were lucky enough to receive an annual pass for Christmas (definitely something worth adding to your wish list) and just 3 months in we've already had so much fun there. Here are some of the events they've got on over Easter:
1, Easter weekend the theme is animal magic, they'll be the "Quack Pack" (ducks) doing there thing, and on the Saturday and Sunday you can meet a meerkat. There will also be lambs, calves and chicks.
2, Throughout the holidays there will be various family activities on offer, and a special event on 2nd to 3rd April for Visit Wales "Big Weekend of Adventure". Click the link to find even more events going on in conjunction with Visit Wales.
3, 29th March to 1st April and 4th to 5th April Pembrokeshire falconry will be there with their bird of prey displays.
4, 2nd to 3rd April is antiques weekend, with a special visit from BBCs Bargain hunt. Plus it's half price entry too.
5, 7th to 10th April another chance to meet a meerkat.
And this is all on top of the usual fun on offer there. Check out their website for more info.
There are so many National trust places across South Wales, and at just £8 a month for a family membership, you can be sure to get more than your money's worth. Over the Easter weekend they've teamed up with Cadburys and will be hosting Easter egg hunts. I personally can not wait. Nothing like the promise of chocolate to entice the kids (and well let's face it, me) out of the house! Head to their website for locations and more details.
An amazing thing about life in Wales is the amazing history. With more castles than any other country in Europe, What's not to love? Our Christmas gift list this year was all about experiences over things, so we also got an annual membership to Cadw. We have big plans to visit as many castles in Wales as we can this year. But you don't have to go far this Easter to enjoy some of the great events they've got on. They also have some Easter egg hunts taking place. And over the Easter weekend at Raglan Castle they are having a medieval themed weekend, with archery, face painting and lots more. Plus on selected dates Mike the knight will be there! That's right folks, Mike himself. My kids are excited anyway! Check out the website for more information.
The Llaneli Wetlands centre is another great place to take your kids this Easter. They have lots of events on throughout the holidays. Including a Giant (rubber) duck hunt, den building, mini-beast hunts and craft workshops.
There are also lots of activities being organised by local councils. Some great indoor options if the dreaded rain makes a return. Here in Swansea various libraries are hosting lots of different events. Here's the link for more.
For those of you who associate Easter with cute cuddly lambs and other newborn animals, well do not fear, i found a great article all about the best farms and petting zoos to visit with your kids this Easter. Cuteness overload.
There is also Swansea community Farm. On Saturday 26th March they are having a Spring Fayre from 10am to 3pm. There will be donkey rides, an Easter bonnet parade, Easter egg hunt and more. Entry is by donation which goes to further the great work they do there.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of everything, but covers some of the best things I've found out about. If you know of other things going on in South Wales please do share in the comments! I will try and keep the blog updated if people share some more great activities.
If you are looking for free activities to do this easter check out this blog post I wrote last year.
There is also a blog post about scavenger hunts here. You could even use these ideas to make your own Easter Egg hunt.
I hope this post has given you some great ideas. Now you can be the ones sharing all of your adventures on social media, rather than having to read about everyone else's ;)
Happy Easter!
